At its core, The Community Thali is a student-led initiative that is dedicated to bettering the state of food security and nutritional awareness amongst disadvantaged communities in India. Rooted in the belief that food should be both a right and a way of resilient living, the project seeks to offer sustainable solutions that help families make more informed, health-conscious and affordable choices with respect to their diet.
In order to actualize this vision, TCT aims to draw data by surveying the community themselves and understanding their current concerns with respect to food knowledge, coping with price increases and accessibility. Utilizing this information, it then looks forward to building more awareness through a curriculum and workshops as well as sharing easy-to-make, cost-affective recipes and establishing a permanent space where nutritious meals can be prepared and distributed. By doing so, the initiative’s aim is simple yet deeply personal - to foster lasting food autonomy and nutritional equity, amongst people who need it the most, one plate at a time.
